Guilty plea from man who crashed auntie's car after drinking

38-year-old had taken vehicle without consent

A drink driver who crashed his auntie’s car after taking it without her permission will be sentenced in October.

Callum Nicholas North, of Victoria Road, also admitted having no insurance and no driving licence during an appearance at Douglas Courthouse this week.

Police arrested the 38-year-old on Tromode Road, just before 6pm, on 2 August - witnesses had described his driving as ‘slow and concerning’.

North had scraped the silver Volvo along railings, narrowly missed a central reservation and hit a curb which blew a tyre before exiting the car and attempting to sit in the passenger seat.

After being taken to Police Headquarters tests showed he was more than twice the legal limit.

A social enquiry report has been requested before North is sentenced on 11 October – he’s been bailed until that date.
