Health department heading in right direction, says minister

Minister insists DHSC not trying to bury bad news

Health Minister David Ashford says the Island's health department is heading in the right direction.

He was responding to the news, announced on Friday evening, that the two top civil servants in his department had stood down from their positions.

It was stated that Dr Malcolm Couch was going so that a new leadership team could be put in place to oversee reforms which are to be outlined in the Sir Jonathan Michael report which is due to be discussed by Tynwald this month, and he felt the time was right to 'pursue new opportunities'.

No specific reason was given for the departure of Michaela Morris.

Minister Ashford strongly refuted the idea that the release of the news on a Friday evening, just before a Bank Holiday weekend, was an attempt to "bury bad news":
