Heritage: 'Structural problems' run deeper than Laxey Wheel

MNH trustee welcomes treasury's 'astonishing' funding

A Manx National Heritage trustee has welcomed treasury's support to repair the Laxey Wheel but says there are still 'structural problems' in the way heritage and culture are funded.

MNH and treasury have agreed a deal to split the cost of restoring the Lady Isabella - aiming to have the waterwheel turning again by next year's tourist season.

The works are estimated to come to a combined cost of £750,000.

Phil Gawne says the funding is 'astonishing' but adds, when compared with the UK, the Isle of Man still has a long way to go in preserving its history:
