Hooper: 'We check our data' against perceived issues

DHSC minister says public opinion is taken into consideration

Issues raised by constituents about health services on the Isle of Man will be looked at even when data suggests there isn’t a problem.

That’s from the health and social care minister who has told a Tynwald committee further investigations are sometimes needed.

Lawrie Hooper highlighted the issue of GP waiting times saying there appears to be a ‘conflict’ between what people are experiencing and the data.

He told the Public Accounts Committee that the average waiting time for an appointment was six days.

However he acknowledged that feedback from members of the public suggested some were waiting for four weeks.

Mr Hooper said he’s ‘comfortable’ that his department and Manx Care are working to a ‘well-crafted’ set of metrics and aren’t collecting statistical information for the sake of it.

However he said there will be times when it conflicts with public opinion:
