Climate change bill passes third reading
A bid to bring forward government's zero carbon emissions target from 2050 to 2035 was defeated in the House of Keys this week.
It's as members gave the Climate Change Bill 2020 its third reading.
Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper tried to bring forward the earlier target, arguing government needed to be more proactive in the face of the emergency:
Environment Minister Geoffrey Boot maintained the 2050 target was the right one.
Mr Hooper's amendment failed but other changes were made to the bill, which will now be scrutinised by the Legislative Council.
