White Hoe closure caused significant delays for motorists on its first day
It's hoped there'll be improvements to traffic around Douglas for tonight's rush hour after significant delays this morning.
Manx Utilities is carrying out work at White Hoe, and a road closure is in place there until Wednesday 25 March.
The Department of Infrastructure says road works are coordinated, and while changes have been made to the timings of traffic lights around Douglas to try and mitigate the increases in traffic volumes, unfortunately these weren't in place in time for this morning's rush hour.
Steve called the Mannin Line today to share his experience of the drive in to Douglas from the south this morning:
A spokesperson from Manx Utilities says: "Unfortunately, the essential work required does necessitate a full road closure for health and safety considerations for contractors.
"Although the closure states manholes, one element of the maintenance involves a large valve chamber below the highway, the cover of which requires replacement.”
