Hot competition at Bonnag Championships

Bonnag bakers across the Island are preparing for battle once again.

The World Bonnag Championships take place today (Fri) in Dalby

The annual competition attracts scores of men, women and children to the west coast village each spring, all hoping to walk away with the coveted trophy.

And this year there's a new class for best commercial bonnag

Margy Killey, co-ordinator at Friends of St James who organise the championships, says they're keen to see entries from cafes and shops who are selling proper bonnag

The World Bonnag Championships take place at St James in Dalby this evening. Those wishing to enter should drop off their bonnag - fruit or plain - to St James Church Hall this afternoon (Fri). The bonnag must be on a paper plate with your name clearly printed on the bottom and get there before 7.30pm

Judging will take place this evening. Admission is £7.50 including a Manx supper and bonnag of course  . . !
