Fire services are reminding householders of the importance of ensuring you have a smoke detector fitted and working in your home.
It comes after an incident in Port Erin yesterday (23rd) in which neighbours of a property in Ballahane Close raised the alarm after hearing a smoke detector go off in the house next door.
When firemen arrived at the scene, they could see smoke inside and forced an entry to the building to search for the source of the fire.
It was found under the kitchen floor where the joists and floorboards had been burnt away. The cause was found to be an electrical fault in the wiring.
The flooring had to be removed to ensure the flames were fully out and crews remained at the scene for two hours, but damage was confined to the kitchen area.
Fire services say yet again, it's proof that smoke detectors not only save lives but mitigate possible damage to property, in this case preventing what could have been a much more serious blaze.
