Members to question ministers on social media age limits, housing rents and Liverpool ferry dispute
The House of Keys has a wide-ranging agenda this morning, with scrutiny of major infrastructure projects and social media policy.
Proceedings will begin with questions, where the Isle of Man Ferry Terminal in Liverpool will be placed under the political spotlight.
Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper has tabled a number of questions to the Infrastructure and Treasury Ministers about authorisation for expenditure above that approved by Tynwald, the nature of an ongoing dispute, and how much public money has been set aside for legal and professional fees.
Treasury will also face questions about the “wet ink visa” system, after a report by Manx Radio, and safeguards around the public subsidy provided to Loganair’s Island routes, including whether mechanisms are in place to prevent cross-subsidisation of commercial expansion elsewhere.
MHKs will also ask when social housing rent thresholds may be increased, whether new tenants receive rent books, the criteria for closing the Mountain Road due to snow and ice, and when the horse tramway might be extended to the Sea Terminal.
Chief Minister Alfred Cannan will face questions about whether any consideration has been given to placing an age limit on access to social media.
In health, a question has been tabled on whether Manx Care has considered introducing “Jess’s Rule”, a patient safety initiative designed to allow families to escalate concerns about a loved one’s condition.
You can listen to today's House of Keys setting from 10am on Manx Radio AM1368, online and on smartphone apps.
