Housing plans for Ramsey

The former gasworks site on North Shore Road in Ramsey could become a housing estate.

Haven Homes of St Mary’s Road in Port Erin has applied for permission to demolish the redundant gasworks buildings and put up 30 homes.

The homes would face over the harbour behind an existing motorbike shop – which would be reclad as part of the proposals.

In its application, the company says it would make a quarter of the homes on the site affordable, in line with government guidelines.

Haven Homes says the three-quarter hectare site would also have a children’s play area as well as the housing units.

But there’ll also need to be work done before the first foundation is laid – the firm says it’s found localised ground contamination because for the site’s former use, which needs to be cleaned up.

The company claims its plans are already broadly supported by Ramsey Town Commissioners and fit in with planning guidelines.
