Humanist figurehead to give talk on Island

Andrew Copson to discuss Secularism on Sunday

The Chief Executive of Humanists UK is set to discuss the separation of religion from politics on the Island tomorrow evening (25 Mar).

Andrew Copson has been invited here by the Isle of Man Freethinkers to give a public talk on Secularism at Keyll Darree from 7:30pm.

Mr Copson is widely regarded as one of the figureheads of Humanism, having appeared on the BBC, Sky and  Channel 4 extensively to discuss the movement.

Humanism is loosely defined as a philosophical stance based on emphasising the value of human agency and science, rather than religion.

Mr Copson's releasing a new book titled 'Secularism', which outlines the 'momentous episodes' in world history, which have lead to current 'struggles for human rights and democracy'.

IOM Freethinkers says it's a relevant topic here, given the recent debate on the role of the Bishop in Tynwald.

Tickets for the event at Keyll Darree on Sunday are free, and can be reserved by contacting the Freethinkers on facebook, or through Eventbrite.
