Ideas sought on making homes efficient

Govt launches consultation on green buildings

Proposals to change building control regulations are out for public consultation.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture wants the construction sector and residents to help shape its approach to what it calls 'eco-friendly planning'.

It's looking at ways to reduce the Island's carbon footprint by making new build homes more energy efficient and airtight.

Other suggestions include an impetus on builders to create virtual 'zero-carbon' dwellings, providing charging points for electric vehicles, and laying foundations for high-speed data cables.
