Manx drivers pay twice as much as UK counterparts
International Driving Permits for Manx residents cost more than the UK equivalent because of admin and production costs.
That's according to Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer, who was responding to a written question in this week's sitting of the House of Keys.
The document is £11 when issued in the Isle of Man, compared to £5.50 in the UK.
However, it's only £1 more than Jersey, and £2 cheaper than Guernsey.
Mr Harmer puts the difference in price down to the economies of scale, as administration costs have to be factored against the number of people taking out a permit.
The permits are currently needed when motorists from the British Isles wish to drive outside the European Union, so may also be needed for driving in EU countries post-Brexit
The DoI has received £17,549 in permit fees for IDPs over the last two years. The Isle of Man Post Office administers the service on behalf of the department.
