Inquiry into Knottfield abuse continues

Social Affairs Policy Review Committee to hear evidence

An inquiry into incidents of alleged child abuse which took place at the former Knotffield Children's Home will continue this morning (3 May).

The Social Affairs Policy Review Committee will hear evidence from Mrs Christine Uruquhart at 10am, followed by Mr John Guest and Ms Kerry Sharpe MLC.

Last year Tynwald expressed it's concern over reports of abuse at the home, which closed in 1983 - the matter was then referred to committee, which was also tasked with investigating what protections are currently in place for children in care on the Island.

The inquiry has resumed after being suspended last November after new evidence caused police to launch a criminal investigation - it's since been concluded

The public are welcome to attend the hearing, which takes place at the Legislative Buildings in Douglas, and can be listened to online via the Tynwald website.

The committee will also hear from Chief Constable Gary Roberts at 11.30am on Friday 18th May and HM Attorney General at 9.30am on Monday 21st.
