IoM 'must protect own interests' after UK ban on petrol and diesel cars

Manx Utilities chair insists Island will have all-Island charging system by 2030

The Isle of Man may have to protect its borders against an influx of cheap and old cars after the British Government's ban on new petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles comes into force.

That's from Manx Utilities chairman Dr Alex Allinson MHK following the announcement motorists in the UK won't be able to buy such cars from 2035.

Dr Allinson insists the infrastructure will be in place locally if the Island were to match the UK's timescale, but believes the Manx Government must make its own decision.

He fears there could be repercussions for the Island:
