Island considering Sierra Leone support

UK government donating £5 million

The Manx government says it's waiting on an international response to recent flooding in Sierra Leone.

Crisis aid is usually distributed via the UK's Disasters Emergency Committee, which must launch an official appeal to receive automatic funding from the Island.

In a statement, Isle of Man Government said it was 'deeply saddened' by deadly mudslides in the west African nation, which has left hundreds dead and thousands homeless.

Though only 'monitoring the situation' for now, officials have contacted charities independently to 'offer support where required'.

It follows news yesterday (Fri) that the UK government is to give £5 million directly to the victims.
