Isle Learn closure 'devastating' to Island's childcare sector

'Body-blow to government's childcare strategy'

The closure of Isle Learn Ltd has been described as a 'body-blow' to government's Childcare Strategy.

The Island’s only private learning centre for Early Years Practitioners, Teaching Assistants, and workers in the Adult and Social Care sectors announced today it's to close due to financial difficulties.

Gary Pierce, owner of Hopes and Dreams Childcare Group, says it's devastating and leaves a void that needs filling:

The government has since responded to Manx Radio's request for comment:

"We are disappointed to hear today's announcement from Isle Learn that they have taken the decision to close their business.

"Isle Learn built a strong reputation for its childcare and health care courses, and worked closely with UCM to ensure that appropriate part time and full time pathways were available on the Island.  Naturally, employers and applicants may be concerned about the impact Isle Learn's closure could have on their imminent training needs.

"We can confirm, however, that UCM will be working closely with DESC and employers from the health and childcare sector in order to identify and support both their immediate and long term needs.

"Initial meetings will take place over the next few weeks to put together a continuity plan aligned to the childcare strategy. UCM delivers a wide range of qualifications with a variety of awarding bodies and is well placed to implement health and childcare courses tailored to both employer and student need."
