Group recognised for two decades of work creating detailed records of the Island’s historic churches
A volunteer group which has spent decades documenting the contents of Manx churches has received a national award.
The Isle of Man Church Recording Group has been presented with the Marsh Charitable Trust Award 2024, which recognises volunteer groups making an outstanding contribution to church recording in the UK and Isle of Man.
The presentation took place at Kirk Braddan’s new church hall and was made by David Medcalf, Chairman of the Church Recording Society.
Founded in 1996, the group has spent more than 20 years creating detailed, illustrated records of 16 Manx churches, including some of the Island’s oldest sites.
Their work is considered a valuable and unique archive, with records held by Manx National Heritage, Church Care England and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Members of the group are also part of The Arts Society Isle of Man.
