Isle of Man marks Remembrance Sunday

Two minute silence, a service and laying of the wreaths expected to happen

A National Service of Remembrance will be held today as the Island marks Remembrance Sunday.

People are also expected to fall silent for two minutes at 11am.

Reverend Liz Hull spoke before the silence took place:

Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer and his wife Lady Lorimer will attend the service at the Royal Chapel in St John’s from 3pm.

Veterans and representatives of the armed forces are expected to attend also, as the Island observes the role played in protecting our freedoms and recognises those who lost their lives as a result of conflict or terrorism.

From 4pm, the congregation will make its way outside to the National War Memorial, where Sir Lorimer will lay the first wreath, followed by the Isle of Man Government’s chief minister.

Residents are invited to gather at the memorial for a two minute silence.

Anyone wishing to attend the church service is asked to be seated no later than 2.45pm.

Meanwhile, the Manx Grand Prix Supporters club are holding a 'minute's noise' for those who've 'passed under the chequered flag'.
