Alfred Cannan defends Food Security Plan which was backed by Tynwald
The Isle of Man's food security is ‘exceptionally good’ according to the chief minister.
Responding to questions on the topic in the House of Keys, Mr Cannan acknowledged that weather conditions could occasionally disrupt supply, meaning residents may not always find their preferred items in stores.
He highlighted the government’s Food Security Plan, which was unanimously approved by Tynwald, as evidence of its commitment to supporting local food provision.
Following Tesco’s announcement of its takeover of Shoprite stores, the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture pledged to assist local producers in gaining the necessary accreditation to stock their products in the supermarket chain.
