People holding noisy house parties who ignore requests from police to turn music down could face on-the-spot the fines and risk having their music equipment seized.

That's the warning from police officers concerned at the growing number of calls-outs each weekend in response to neighbours distressed by noise.

Repeat offenders can be prosecuted under the both the Noise and Public Health acts, with punishments including substantial fines and three months imprisonment.

Inspector Mark Britton form the Central Neighbourhood Policing Team says the force takes a staged approach to what it sees as 'anti social parties':
