Keys considers bill to reform constituency boundaries

Reforming the Isle of Man's constituency boundaries has always been about equality.

That's the message from Sally Bolton, the former chair of the committee tasked with looking into the issue.

After extensive consultation and three reports, the committee recommended the creation of twelve equal Keys constituencies.

Each would be represented by two MHKS with an average population of around 7000.

The clauses of the bill which would make this happen are going to be considered in the House of Keys today. [Tues]

But there are a raft of amendments, the majority from Rushen MHK Juan Watterson who has been accused of trying to derail the process.

He has denied this.

Ms Bolton says after extensive review, it was clear the public wanted to have fairness, but ultimately the decision lies with the politicians.
