Last call for local election candidates

Nomination deadline approaches

Candidates seeking to stand in this year's local elections have until 5pm to submit their nominations (5 April).

One hundred and fifty seats are up for grabs on 22 town, village and parish authorities around the Island.

Potential candidates must submit their nomination papers to the clerk of the authority they wish to stand for, by 5pm.

Where the number of candidates fills the available seats, there will be no contest and the individuals will be elected unopposed.

If there are fewer candidates than seats, vacancies on the authority will re advertised.

A full list of candidates will be confirmed at 2pm tomorrow after a period for withdrawals or objections - but the likely number of contests should become clear this evening.

The all-Island local authority elections take place on Thursday 28 April.
