Laxey man admits trying to send cash off-Island

Suspicious parcel in X-ray machine at sorting office

A court's heard CCTV footage led police to a Laxey man who tried to send thousands of pounds off-Island in a parcel.

Twenty-seven-year-old Craig George Trevor Lovell, of Minorca Hill, appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

He pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to remove criminal property on 12 October.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court staff at the sorting office called police after spotting a suspicious parcel in the X-ray machine.

Magistrates heard the package was opened and inside was £22,240.

Lovell was arrested after police found CCTV footage of him posting the package and forensics linked him to the plastic bags of cash.

Magistrates said the offence was too serious to be heard in the summary courts and committed Lovell to the Court of General Gaol Delivery.

He was bailed in the sum of £500 to appear there on 30 July.
