Lord Bishop voices concerns
The Abortion Reform Bill passed its first reading in the Legislative Council today.
MLCs are currently scrutinising the bill, with the sitting being the first time they debated it within the chamber.
Jane Poole-Wilson said the legislation would create the landscape for women to be supported.
But the Lord Bishop, Peter Eagles, said the bill may protect the mother, but took less care to protect the other life concerned.
He suggested it go to a committee, so ethical considerations might be looked at.
Speaking to Manx Radio after the sitting, the MLC steering the bill through LegCo, Bill Henderson, said although he respected Bishop Eagles' views, such things had already been considered:
Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital closure 'inconvenient' but 'significant issues' need to be fixed
Four local authorities looking for by-election candidates
Reinstatement of home births 'remains at top of agenda' for Manx Care
Weekend sailings at risk
