Changes would enable a single consent
Measures are in the pipeline to streamline the application process for the development of offshore wind power generation in the Island's territorial waters.
A key principle of the proposed changes is to simplify the process, enabling a single consent through the Marine Infrastructure Management Act, rather than a requirement for consents under multiple pieces of legislation.
The regulation will initially focus on marine activities including offshore renewable energy, aggregate extraction and laying of submarine cables and pipelines.
The approach seeks to promote the sustainable development and effective management of marine resources and doesn't include drilling for gas, carbon capture or the exploitation of natural gas and petroleum.
Infrastructure Minister, Tim Crookall, says the changes are vital to modernising the way infrastructure within our seas is managed, and the Department is committed to aligning the regulations with established practices in the UK and providing a familiar and reliable framework for industry professionals.
