Lezayre roadworks delayed until 2017

Work began, now put on hold

A major highways scheme in the north of the Island has been put on hold - four days after works began.

Repairs to pipes and drains on the Lezayre Road began on Monday this week (Sept 26), after a public consultation on the process last month.

A single-file traffic light system was being used to ensure the road could be kept open - but officials said there was insufficient space to continue working whilst ensuring public safety.

A further meeting between the Department of Infrastructure and local representatives determined the project could not be completed without road closures.

It's due to be restarted next year.
