Lib Van leader's concerns over merging of authorities

A former chairman of the Island’s Water Authority says he’s worried merging the MEA with the authority will saddle the new organisation with crippling debts.

Liberal Vannin leader Peter Karran says he’s concerned the MEA will use the Water Authority’s money to pay off some of the debt it ran up when it built Pulrose Power Station.

He says the merger, announced by Chief Minister Allan Bell earlier this week as part of a wider shakeup of government, should have been discussed with Tynwald members before it was unveiled.

And he says he’ll be asking some serious questions about the proposals when they’re discussed by the court:
