Local authority member admits illegally depositing waste

Case adjourned until next hearing in June

A local authority member has been convicted of illegally depositing waste in a field he owns in the north of the Island.

Ramsey commissioner Wilfred George Young of Derby Road appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.

The 77 year old pleaded guilty to depositing unlicensed waste and allowing equipment to be used to deposit it.

Prosecution advocate Barry Swain told the hearing the offences had taken place on land near Bernaharra Road last June.

When magistrates asked him to enter a plea, Young replied “I suppose I must be guilty, but I don’t remember it”.

The court heard Young, who operates Wilf’s Skips, used the site to deposit waste despite being unlicensed.

Mr Swain said the facts of the case were so lengthy, a special hearing would be needed to present them to the bench before Young is sentenced.

The case was adjourned until that hearing takes place on 20 June.
