Local authority stance on hotel demolition could change

Commissioners previously decided against serving a demolition notice

Malew Commissioners could decide to demolish the Castletown Golf Links Hotel now that new members have been elected.

That's the message from the clerk of the local authority after the future of the structure was discussed in this week's sitting of the House of Keys.

Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Clare Barber confirmed the local authority has the power to serve a demolition notice if the building poses a safety concern.

The planning committee is due to consider an application to redevelop the site later this month, four years after the proposals for a new hotel and residential apartments were submitted by Dandara.

The hotel has been closed since 2007.
