Business says there 'isn’t one single reason behind the decision'

A local mobile catering business has announced it's made the 'difficult decision' to bring its food truck journey to a close.

Filbey's made the announcement on social media, saying there 'isn’t one single reason behind the decision', but that the last few years have brought 'increasing challenges'.

They have cited the rising cost of produce and ingredients and VAT changes as some of them.

Owners Scott and Adele Filbey and Jess Reeder-Katsipis say they've 'always put a huge amount of time, energy and love' into the business, but they've 'reached a point where the effort and investment required to keep going simply isn’t giving the return' they need for it to be 'sustainable long-term'.

The statement in full: "This is a post we’ve been putting off writing, but after a lot of thought and many conversations between us, we’ve made the difficult decision that towards the end of this year, we’ll be bringing our food truck journey to a close.

"There isn’t one single reason behind the decision. Like so many small businesses, the last few years have brought increasing challenges.

"The cost of produce and ingredients continues to rise, VAT has put more and more pressure on the business, and there’s only so much we can realistically increase our prices without passing too much of that burden on to our customers.

"We’ve always put a huge amount of time, energy and love into what we do, but we’ve reached a point where the effort and investment required to keep going simply isn’t giving us the return we need for it to be sustainable long-term.

"It’s a really difficult decision and one that we are incredibly sad about, because we genuinely love what we do. We love seeing people enjoying our food, the atmosphere we’ve created and everything we’ve built together over the years. This little truck has been such a big part of our lives, and we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built and everything we’ve achieved along the way.

"Most of all, we are unbelievably grateful to you — everyone who has queued at the truck, recommended us to friends, booked us for events, followed and shared our posts, come back week after week, or simply stopped by for some food and a chat. Your support has meant more to us than you probably realise.

"We’re not disappearing just yet! We’ll still be trading for the coming months and have plenty more food to serve before we call it a day, so this isn’t goodbye quite yet.

"For now, we just wanted to be open with you all about what’s happening and say a huge thank you for supporting our little business and being part of the journey.

"Here’s to making the most of the rest of the year together.
