DEFA Minister speaks at daily media briefing
The minister in charge of the Island's food industry insists Manx producers can make enough food locally.
Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Geoffrey Boot has been outlining the support his department is offering to farmers, the fishing fleet and other producers during the ongoing coronavirus outbreak during today's daily coronavirus media briefing.
Mr Boot said agriculture can't be switched on and off, so support payments have been brought forward to ensure farmers have everything they need.
After Tynwald approved a package to help the fishing industry on Friday, Mr Boot explained why the assistance is vital:
The Isle of Man Creamery has added 1,200 new delivery customers as more Manx residents seek to have goods brought to their door rather than going to shops in person.
Findlay MacLeod from the creamery also revealed the organisation has had to take on five new employees in customer service and six delivery drivers to cope with demand.
