Charity announced this week it's considering winding down

Losing the Manx Grand Prix Supporters club would leave a 'huge gap' in the MGP community if the charity was to shut down.

That's the belief of the chairman of the club after it was announced last week it's considering the possibility of winding down its operations.

In a statement issued to members, it says some of the reasons this is being pondered include changing objectives, a lack of younger people getting involved and increasing volunteering regulations.

Allan Brew was asked what would need to happen in the coming weeks to turn the situation around:

A further decision on the club's future will be made at its next meeting in January.

Should members decide that dissolving the charity is the way forward, the matter would then go to a general meeting of all club members and would need a two-thirds majority to pass.

In 2025, the club celebrated its 50th anniversary having first formed in 1975 to help fund the rescue helicopter for use during the Manx Grand Prix.

The club says, however, this changed in 2021 when government began covering those costs.

Since that time, the organisation adds it's been focusing on helping injured MGP riders and their families as well as helping new MGP riders with entry costs since 2022.

Anyone who wants to find out more about supporting the club going forward is invited to contact Mr Brew by email on mgpsupportersclub@manx.net or by phone on 07624 438 438.
