34 changes proposed in total

A consultation by DEFA on far-reaching changes to its suite of health and safety regulations will close at the end of this month.

It's proposed the 34 changes in total would align with the current UK offshore regulations and be introduced at different stages.

Some could take effect immediately after Tynwald approval.

Others would be enacted by 1 October this year and the rest no earlier than 1 August 2028.

DEFA says the aim of the review is to address the lack of a suitable offshore health and safety framework to permit work activities to take place offshore.

It says that as a consequence, much of the legislation will also be applied to onshore activities.

Each piece of new or updated legislation requires consultation with those affected by the changes.

The full list of activities involved in the proposed changes can be viewed on the government's online consultation hub.
