Major work on East Quay in Peel from September

Manx Utilities laying new main and sewers

Another promenade is set for major infrastructure works and closures from the beginning of next month.

Manx Utilities has announced it will be laying a new water main and sewers on East Quay in Peel.

Work is set to start on Monday 7 September from the Shore Road pumping station on Peel promenade before continuing onto East Quay

No finish date has been released but the upgrade will continue into 2021.

The route will be closed to through traffic and there will be a moving 60m working area.

Manx Utilities say it will be possible for pedestrians to walk through and the quayside will be accessible for marine operations.

A letter is to be sent out to all Peel residents this week to explain why the work is required and how the various sections along East Quay will be closed.

There is drop-in session at Peel Centenary Centre on Thursday 27 August from 5pm to 7.30pm.

Manx Gas will also lay a short section of gas main on Shore Road in the early stages of the project.

The work is being carried out by local contractor Paul Carey and Sons Limited.

Manx Utilities says work on the sewers is required now regardless of the future outcome of the regional sewage treatment plans for Peel.
