Man accused of killing mother appears in court for second time

21-year-old remanded in custody to appear on 23 February

A man will appear in court again next month accused of killing his mother and trying to kill his father.

Twenty-one-year-old James Price of Croft Park in Andreas appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse via a live video link from prison.

He’s charged with murder and attempted murder, at his home on 17 January, but hasn’t yet entered any pleas.

The court heard he hasn’t yet instructed an advocate.

At a previous hearing, Mrs Hughes was told the emergency services received a 999 call from Mr Price’s grandmother just after 2am on 17 January.

Officers went to the family home and were told Mr Price had tried to strangle his father with a towel.

Upstairs, in a bedroom, they discovered Mr Price’s mother unconscious beneath a duvet – she was pronounced dead by ambulance staff a short time later.

There was no application for bail and Mr Price was remanded in custody to appear in court again on 23 February.
