Thirty-eight-year-old fined for being drunk and disorderly
A court’s heard a row between brothers about a hat ended with one in police custody.
At Douglas Courthouse, 38-year-old Shaun William Kirby of Oak Avenue in Douglas pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly on 23 December.
Prosecution advocate Roger Kane told magistrates police were on patrol in Victoria Street when they saw an argument between two men.
Kirby was shouting and swearing and had grabbed the other man by his clothing, shaking him.
Officers approached the pair, and noticed Kirby was drunk.
His advocate told the court her client had been out drinking with his brother, who'd been wearing a hat.
When Kirby took it off him, a row broke out and the incident had escalated.
Magistrates chairman David Christian told him in future he should leave his brother’s hat alone.
He fined Kirby £275 and ordered him to pay £50 prosecution costs.
