Man arrested in connection with jewellery robbery

A local man was arrested yesterday evening (Wed) in connection with the robbery at RHS Jewellers on Prospect Hill, Douglas.

He's currently being detained at Police Headquarters as officers continue enquiries into the incident which happened around 4pm last Friday.

Detective Sergeant Brian Shimmin is thanking members of the public for help, but adds that they are still keen to hear from anyone who believes they may have information regarding the robbery.

He's reminding people that the robber used a motorbike which had been taken from the rear of Road and Track on Tynwald Street to make his escape.

The bike was later found in the service lane that runs at the rear of Belmont Terrace.

The burnt remains of a crash helmet, hammer and clothing were discovered on an area of rough ground just beyond that. A pathway leads from the area on to Peel Road or through to Hillside Avenue and the old Nobles Hospital site.

Anyone who was around that area last Friday and saw anything suspicious should contact police headquarters on 631 212.

CCTV photos and details are also on the police social media pages.
