Officers were approached while investigating separate incident at Pizza Hut
A man’s been fined after drunkenly abusing police officers who were investigating a crime he had nothing to do with.
Twenty-three-year-old Thomas Ashley Hall of Lheaney Road appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
He pleaded guilty to one count each of being drunk and disorderly and resisting police.
Prosecution advocate Roger Kane said in the early hours of 31 August, police were called to Pizza Hut on Douglas Promenade after an incident of criminal damage.
Although Hall had nothing to do with the incident, he berated officers at they took witness statements – demanding to know why they weren't reviewing CCTV.
Despite being asked to leave a number of times, he refused and when he was eventually arrested he became extremely aggressive, forcing police to use PAVA incapacitant spray twice to subdue him.
Hall’s advocate told the court his client had lost his job because of the court case and he was deeply remorseful for his actions that night.
Magistrates fined him £225 for being drunk and disorderly, and £450 for resisting police.
He was also ordered to pay £125 towards prosecution costs.
