Man fined after being ‘general nuisance’ outside nightclub

34-year-old was disorderly towards police officers in Douglas

A Douglas man who shouted ‘nonsensical’ remarks at police officers, who were on duty outside a nightclub, has been fined £350.

Marc O’meara, of Tynwald Street, appeared at Douglas Courthouse where he admitted being drunk and disorderly outside 1886 on 11 February.

He was spotted on Regent Street at around 2am - officers described him as being a ‘general nuisance’ saying he was shouting incoherently and being rude.

Despite advice to leave the area O’meara didn’t; the 34-year-old’s advocate told the court: “He was too drunk to take it onboard,” adding his language and unpleasant remarks were ‘inappropriate’

“He’s simply been making a nuisance of himself,” he added.

Ordering O’meara to pay prosecution costs of £125 High Bailiff Jayne Hughes described his language as ‘unpleasant bordering on homophobic’ adding: “You simply should have just gone on your way.”
