Merseyside Police campaign aimed to protect TT visitors
A man from Merseyside has been sentenced to 32 weeks in jail following an operation to prevent Isle of Man TT visitors being targeted by thieves while waiting for their sailings from Liverpool.
22-year-old Sean Johnson from Wavertree Road was arrested in the Wapping area of Liverpool during practice week this year following reports of suspicious activity involving scooters.
Johnson was charged with driving whilst disqualified, handling stolen goods, having no insurance, possession of a knife and breach of a Criminal Behaviour Order.
In a hearing at Liverpool Crown Court he was sentenced to 32 weeks in prison, disqualified from driving for 10 weeks and ordered to pay costs.
Officers in the city run a summer operation in a bid to crack down on motorbike thefts ahead of the TT. This year saw a significant decrease in theft offences reported by TT visitors during their time in Liverpool.
Following the sentencing, Sergeant Dave Yorke from the Matrix Roads Policing Unit said Johnson's case was one of many examples of officers successfully disrupting criminals in the run up to TT.
