Man who spat at police charged

Fifty-one-year-old admits being drunk and disorderly

A 51-year-old has appeared at Douglas courthouse charged with being drunk and disorderly.

Martin Lee Booker, of no fixed abode, also faced one count assaulting a police officer.

He pleaded guilty to both offences which took place back on September 19.

At around 11.15pm, police were called to the Sefton Hotel in Douglas to reports of a man - now known to be Booker - being abusive and spitting towards staff members.

The court heard his speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet and smelt of alcohol.

Officers said he repeatedly swore as they tried to detain him - Booker spitting at one of them twice as they tried to place him in handcuffs.

Deputy High Bailiff Janye Hughes has adjourned the case.

Booker will appear in court again next on December 6 at 10am.
