Ferry operator says new vessel will 'inevitably' be slower
The Steam Packet says the vessel which replaces Manannan will 'inevitably' be slower, while year-round connectivity to Liverpool will be prioritised.
The ferry operator, which insists it has an 'open mind' about what the new vessel will look like, is currently carrying out a survey as it looks to replace the fast craft by 2030.
The Sea Services Agreement - the contract between the company and government that sets out the services it's required to provide - states the replacement for Manannan should be secured by this year.
Launching on Wednesday (28 January) morning, the company received almost 1000 responses to its survey within the first few hours.
Announcing the consultation, the SPC says it's 'exploring options for a next-generation vessel capable of providing a dependable, reliable and affordable service, with a particular focus on future connectivity to Liverpool'.
The operator says future planning must balance performance, comfort, regulatory compliance and sustainability.
