Manx business threatened in Strand Street incident

Police reveal reason behind 1 April armed response

A threat to a Strand Street business was the reason behind an armed police response in the capital at the start of the month.

Officers have provided more information on the incident that happened on the 1 April.

Police say a man made a threat to harm people in the street, which they took as a 'credible threat'.

Specialist Firearms Officers were sent to the area as a result.

However it was later discovered that the threat came from someone off-Island and officers stood down.

Superintendent Stephen Maddocks says it's now been investigated but the man is known to police and is thought to be suffering with mental health issues.

He says no further action is being taken at this time 'based on all the circumstances in this particular case.'
