Items pose threat to countryside
The Manx Farmers' Union has welcomed a change in the law which bans the release of helium balloons and sky lanterns.
It's in a bid to combat litter, wildfires and the threat the items can pose to wildlife and livestock.
In 2014 the MFU called for them to be made illegal after a cow died from swallowing lantern wire.
Vice President Ean Parsons says they find the items at least once a week:
Overnight sailings cancelled due to adverse weather
Rapist who 'terrorised' his victim told his sentence was 'entirely justified'
Complaints process for health system changed
Discovery of oiled birds 'makes a mockery of our biosphere status'
