MANX NEWSCAST:

  • 'We want to provide a facility for almost anybody'

'We want to provide a facility for almost anybody'.That's the message from two women who are hoping to keep Ballafesson Church Hall open for the local, and wider, community. Maureen Dadd and Pat Harper, from Friends of Ballafesson Community, have one year to make the hall viable otherwise it will be sold on the open market. Mrs Dadd and Mrs Harper say the group is looking to start a programme of events and is open to ideas from local groups. They add the chapel is closed and has issued a 'cease to meet' - but the hall is still in use.Currently the Friends of Ballafesson Community has organised coffee mornings and jumble sales - but is hoping to expand into hotpot nights, soup lunches and concerts with Manx bands.Local Democracy Reporter Emma Draper has been speaking to Maureen and Pat:

AGENDA:

  • Agenda 8.6.26 - renewable energy ay Andreas Airfield

Renewable energy firm IPV Flexgen will be hosting a public consultation at Andreas Parish Hall on Wednesday between 10.00am and 7.00pm to share updated proposals for the redevelopment of Andreas Airfield. This farmer led project includes agricultural growing units, an Anaerobic Digestor plant, ground mounted solar PV and battery storage to provide the site with electricity and heat. Could this project develop into a sustainable energy scheme that most people can get behind? IPV Flexgen claims to be paving the way for a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient future for farming. Let’s hope they’re right.

PERSPECTIVE:

  • Perspective 7.6.26 - the health of Manx Care, the Minister gives her diagnosis.

Manx Care’s mission is to become the best small Island health and social care system in the world. An ambitious aspiration but few people would argue against it I imagine. That said, despite a substantial uplift in funding, Manx Care seems some distance away from its aspiration, and incapable of sticking to the budget set for it. So what’s going wrong and how do we cure Manx Care’s ailments. The Minister gives her diagnosis on Perspective. Can we really have the world’s best health service without draining precious resources from the rest of Isle of Man Government? It’s a big ask.

JOURNEY TO A DREAM:

  • The Biker Mums - Catriona McIntosh Thomson & Jayne Simpson

Not every journey to a dream starts on the Mountain Course - and not every hero in the paddock wears leathers. In this episode of Journey to a Dream, the spotlight shifts to two important people behind the scenes: the biker mums.Catriona McIntosh Thomson and Jayne Simpson are known around the paddock as the mums of Grant Thomson and Marcus Simpson, but their role in road racing goes far beyond that. They talk openly with Beth about what it’s like when your child chooses road racing, the nerves that never quite go away, the early mornings, the overflowing trophy cabinets and the unwavering support it takes to help someone else chase a dream.Honest, funny, and relatable, this episode is a reminder that while riders take to the course alone, they never get there on their own.You can listen back to the previous JTAD podcasts with Grant here and with Marcus here, and they both also took part in the first ever Journey to a Dream Live from the Queen's.It would great if you could follow the riders on social media - your support makes such a difference. Grant is on Facebook and Instagram and you can find Marcus on Facebook and Instagram too.
