Manx Telecom in takeover talks with Jersey Telecom's parent company

Details remain unclear about the impact it'll have on the Isle of Man

Manx Radio understands Manx Telecom is accepting bids for a potential takeover, with JT Group - the parent company of Jersey Telecom - currently in negotiations with the Manx provider.

The impact of the buyout on consumer costs and potential job losses remains unclear.

Manx Radio understands that the Isle of Man Government was offered the opportunity to purchase the telecoms provider but declined.

Manx Radio has approached the government, Jersey Telecom, and Manx Telecom for comment.

JT Group declined to comment but confirmed 'background discussions' are ongoing.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Man Government said: "It would be inappropriate to provide a specific comment on any individual business which may, or may not, be going through a commercial transaction until such time as any such transaction is confirmed publicly."
