Manx Utilities defends private healthcare provider tender

Says it only applies to a small number of legacy employees

Manx Utilities has been defending an advert looking for private healthcare providers for its staff.

It's after concerns were raised on social media about public money being used to pay for the benefit.

In a statement, Manx Utilities says, "A small number of Manx Utilities’ staff have a legacy employment contract which includes the provision of medical insurance as part of their remuneration however this contract option was ceased prior to the establishment of ‘Manx Utilities’ in April 2014.

"A further small group of employees contribute privately for their own health insurance through the same provider.

"In order to provide the best value option we are required under Isle of Man Government Financial Regulations to undertake a routine procurement exercise; which is advertised on our website and via social media."
