Massive drug haul in Douglas

£440,000 worth of cannabis in vehicle on ferry

One of the largest drug hauls in recent years was made in Douglas this morning. (Thurs 22nd)

Sixty-nine kilogrammes of cannabis with a street value of around £440,000 was discovered in a vehicle which had travelled on the overnight sailing from Heysham.

It followed an operation involving officers from both the Isle of Man Constabulary and Customs and Excise.

A 30-year-old man from the Merseyside area has been charged with a number of drugs offences and will appear at Douglas courthouse on Friday morning.

Inspector Juan Kinley from the Proactive Unit at police headquarters says they remain focused on tackling those involved in serious and organised crime targeting the Isle of Man.
