MBE is for whole of civil service says former Chief Financial Officer

One of the two men honoured in the Queen's New Year honour's list says he sees his MBE as a recognition for the vital work done by the civil service.

Mark Shimmin retired as Chief Financial Officer in April after some thirty years service.

He says his work as CFO had wide remit over the years and during his time he worked with six Treasury Ministers.

Also honoured today was Michal Kewley who receives the British Empire Medal for services to local government and the community.

He stepped down as clerk to Port Erin Commissioners in February after nearly 30 years in the role and more than 40 years with the local authority.

Mr Kewley worked to ensure the provision of sheltered housing for the elderly in Port Erin and had been involved with Rushen Parish PCC, Rushen Silver Band, and Island swimming.
